The Search for Home
"A man travels the world over in search of what he needs and returns home to find it." ~ George Moore
Many of you will recognize this quote from an e-mail I sent recently with new contact information. It seems even more appropriate now that we've bought my parent's house. That's right. I said we've bought my parent's house. We're planting roots. In Ohio. In the house I grew up in. It's a three-bedroom ranch on three acres and has a huge unfishinished basement with lots of possibilities (can you say game room, exercise room, craft area, dark room, gun room ... well I guess we'll have to make a few decisions there).
While I was in North Carolina last week, things were pretty busy in Ohio. The closing was on Tuesday for our home purchase and for the perfect, little house that my mom and dad have purchased as well. They packed and schlepped belongings back and forth all week, then Saturday Beau and Susan came to help with the big furniture move. Now, all we have left to worry about is the 25 years worth of accumulated junk in the basement that nobody wants to claim (and so the bon fires continue).
Our belongings, which have been in storage in St. Louis for three months will be delivered on Monday. In the meantime, we're replacing carpet and painting rooms and finishing one corner of the basement for my new office (I know - that's not even on the list above. Where are our priorities?).
The picture I've provided at the top of this post is actually from halloween (recognize that lion?), but it's the only shot of the house I could find at the moment. And it's been raining for three long days, so the light's no good for new pics. I assure you, though, we'll have plenty of before-and-after shots to share over the next few months (years, actually, by the time we finish the basement, build a new deck, remodel the kitchen, dig a pond, build a pole barn ... oh the plans we've made!)
Other random updates: Jeromy's face is clean shaven, Robey's hair is growing out nicely and my spine is slowly taking its proper shape.
