Toon boat on the holiday weekend

Mike took some great pics of the kids at our house this weekend.

Sorry about all those annoying twitter posts

I've turned off those loud twitter updates and stuck (placeld? pinned?) a twitter badge over there on the right instead. The little micro posts are less permanent that way - but that's kind of the point with Twitter I guess, and the daily digests were really starting to annoy me. You too? That's what I figured.

You might notice I also added a del.icio.us badge and a lijit widget, both of which need to be resized or tweaked a bit, but I'm too tired at this point to do that. The del.icio.us thingy shows you which Web sites I've bookmarked. The lijit thingy shows you a partial list of other sights I've been suckered into signing up for. You can also use the search field to search my content on all those sites and the content of everyone in my blogroll. I think. I'm not real clear on that yet.

Here's the scoop on Twitter, for those who've asked. You sign up, follow a few folks and type in random thoughts of 140 characters or less. Your individual posts or tweets as they call them start with your screen name (which counts towards your 140 characters, so think small). Your replies to others start with @theirscreenname. Your most recent tweets and the tweets of those you follow display in your twitter stream, then dissapear off the page as others reappear. I'm not making it sound easy, but it is. In fact, it's probably the easiest social media app I've signed up for. But it's also the most addictive. Robey even said the other day, "How come everytime you're on the computer you go to that page?"

Oh yeah, bucko. How come everytime you're on the computer you go to Netflix? Ha?

That's me getting defensive with a five-year-old.

Now it's midnight and I have to go feed a screaming Baby Z. Sign up for Twitter and follow me. I'll follow you back.

Ali's daily twiter digest

  • 10:10 Oh no! Deadline for mid-year report was just changed from July 30 to TODAY. Scrambling. So much for an easy, pre-holiday workday. #
  • 10:14 Typepad, Blogger, etc need to make simple, twitter-like interfaces for making quick, easy posts. Have they already done that & I missed it? #
